Description:
Cleat spacers are used to effectively lengthen the shorter leg of cyclists with a leg length discrepancy. Signs of such a discrepancy can include:
- Overextension on one side at the bottom of the pedaling movement
- Tilting the pelvis or leaning the rider to one side of the saddle to maintain contact with the pedals during the lower pedal stroke
- One leg feels understretched while the other feels “right”
Provided the seating position is correct and a leg length discrepancy has been identified, the above-mentioned problems can be corrected with the use of leg length adjusters. Proper adjustment can lead to more even leg extension, stabilize the pelvis, and enable a smoother, more controlled kick on the shorter side.
In some cases, leg length adjustments can also help with functional leg length discrepancies. While there is no anatomical discrepancy, a significant unequal leg extension is evident when cycling. In such cases, it is essential to consult a bike fitter before attempting any measures.
